Shattered
The joys of parking on the street.
They didn’t take anything, and the car runs fine. It’s beyond me what the motivation is here, especially considering this is a ’95 Taurus on a street with Mercedes, Saabs, and Audis. Is there a thrill in just committing stupid vandalism like this?
I do remember waking up in the middle of the night feeling scared. I was woken (I think) by a car door being slammed, and I heard a few more car doors slam and heard people talking outside. I wondered why people were being so loud so late on a Sunday night, but they didn’t seem to be in a hurry. I peeked outside and they drove off. My head was probably 40 yards from my car at that point and even closer to what I assume was the vandals’ license plate. Of course, I wouldn’t notice the window until about 12 hours later.
I figured maybe somebody yelled at them after they broke the window, and that’s why nothing was taken, including the car. But I asked around Monday night and nobody saw anything. Everybody had a story to tell, though, about their car getting broken into or bikes getting stolen.
I have another theory, though. There was an auto glass replacement van outside my neighbor’s place just the other day, and when I called my insurance company about this break-in they directed me to their partner, the same company that was fixing my neighbor’s window. I wouldn’t put it past that industry to have some kind of racket that keeps them in business.
I was Sisyphus yesterday, cleaning this up. I swept the glass up and threw it in the garbage can, though it seemed to be never-ending. Turns out our garbage can has a big hole in the bottom. Yay.

That’s a contender for the worst Monday ever.

I think you should take advantage of this opportunity to become an advocate for the receivers of smashed glass. You can cruise the streets at night, heroically frustrating the minions of the horrid window-repair overlord.
yes, KEN, your calling has found you… Don’t let other 1995 Green Ford Tauri be deflowered with such violence.

Becky: Yeah, but the Minnewegian in me thinks it could have been worse. The worst part is that after fixing the window today I’m still forced to park on the street and who knows when they might strike again? I’d feel silly putting a club on a ‘95 Taurus, but if they’re just looking for a joyride then I guess it’s a deterrent. Who knows?
Daneel: Don’t think I haven’t thought of it.
